David H. Murdock, Chief Executive Officer

In addition to being Chief Executive Officer of Castle & Cooke Aviation, David H. Murdock is currently Chairman, CEO and owner of Dole Food Company, Inc., which is the world’s largest producer and marketer of high-quality fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut flowers and it markets a growing line of packaged foods. Dole, a Fortune 500 company, generates revenue of over $5 billion and employs 59,000 people in more than 90 countries around the world.

Mr. Murdock is also owner and CEO of Castle & Cooke, Inc., and Murdock Realty, LLC which, with their affiliated companies, is a leading developer and owner of residential and commercial real estate in over 25 states, employing approximately 3,500 people. His companies own approximately 98% of the 88,000-acre private Hawaiian Island of Lana’i, which has two of the world’s highest rated resorts, the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i at Manele Bay and The Lodge at Koele and adjacent golf courses. His companies also own the master planned communities of Lake Sherwood in Thousand Oaks, California; Mililani Town, Oahu, Hawaii; Keene’s Pointe, Orlando, Florida; Pueblo del Sol, Sierra Vista, Arizona; Seven Oaks in Bakersfield, California and Alberhill Ranch in Lake Elsinore, California. Mr. Murdock owned companies are under construction on the first building of the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina. When completed, this project is anticipated to include more than one million square feet of office and laboratory space, as well as retail and residential uses. Mr. Murdock has been active in business aviation since 1973 and in 2003 purchased, through his companies, the Bombardier Global Express for his extensive travels. Castle & Cooke Aviation and Dole Foods’ Flight Department maintain and operate this aircraft. Additionally, Mr. Murdock has developed aircraft hangars and office structures at VNY since 1981.

Also key in his private companies are Flexi-Van Leasing, Inc., Kenilworth, New Jersey, one of the nation’s leading lessors of chassis; Pacific Clay Products, Inc. a vitrified brick company in Lake Elsinore, California and Lincoln, Nebraska; Castaic Clay Products, LLC, a vitrified brick company in Castaic, California; Pacific Aggregates, Inc., a sand, aggregate and concrete products company in Lake Elsinore, California and Rancho Ready Mix Products, L.P., a concrete products company in Colton and Beaumont, California.

Mr. Murdock is active in the civic affairs in the communities in which he lives and works, supporting educational, medical and cultural programs. He organized the collaborative efforts of medical and nutrition experts at Mayo Clinic, University of California, Los Angeles and Dole Food Company, Inc. to write The Encyclopedia of Foods, A Guide to Healthy Nutrition. This 500-page book, published in 2002, is the definitive guide to a healthier lifestyle through improved nutrition, exercise and disease prevention. He is active in national, state and local politics. He resides principally in Southern California, with secondary homes in New York, Lana’i, Hawaii, and Kannapolis, North Carolina. His son, Justin Murdock, is active in the family businesses. Mr. Murdock’s hobbies include reading, the arts, poetry, and horticulture. He is a breeder of more than 50 prized Arabian horses, has an orchid collection consisting of more than 16,500 plants, and is an avid art and antique furniture collector.

 

Edward C. Roohan, President & Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Roohan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the corporate headquarters of Castle & Cooke, Inc., Murdock Realty, LLC and their affiliated companies and is involved in all significant acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and senior personnel matters of the companies. Since being employed by David H. Murdock more than ten years ago, he has worked with numerous lending institutions and was responsible for raising over $3 billion in various financings. Castle & Cooke, Inc., Murdock Realty, LLC and their affiliated companies operate under the umbrella of “Castle & Cooke”. The companies diversified businesses include the development and ownership of residential and commercial real estate, leasing of transportation equipment, manufacture of brick and clay products and ownership of public warehouses and aviation facilities.

In addition to Mr. Roohan’s other responsibilities, in 2003, Mr. Roohan was elected to the Board of Directors of Dole Food Company, Inc. He assisted Mr. Murdock in securing the privatization of the former publicly traded company. The privatization was valued at approximately $2.5 billion.

Mr. Roohan began his career at Arthur Andersen in the Chicago and Los Angeles offices from 1985 until 1993. He was a senior manager in the audit and business advisory group specializing in the real estate and entertainment practice. He joined Castle & Cooke Homes, Inc. in 1993 as Vice President and Controller. Castle & Cooke Homes, Inc. was then a publicly traded homebuilding company that was 80% owned by Dole Food Company, Inc. Mr. Roohan graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1985. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California.

 

Craig M. Walker, Vice President, Operations

As a Vice President, Operations of Castle & Cooke Aviation, Mr. Walker’s responsibilities cover all aspects of day to day operations of the VNY hangar facility. These activities include tenant interaction, vendor relationships for aviation operations and for regulatory issues. He is also involved with the development of new properties and aviation programs for Castle & Cooke Aviation.

Mr. Walker began his aviation career in Southern California in 1975 in aircraft maintenance with American Jet Industries as a technical group leader and later as Department Supervisor. He worked with Gulfstream American at Van Nuys as Aircraft Maintenance Manager. In 1980, he became Director of Aircraft Maintenance for Castle & Cooke Aviation Services, Inc.

Mr. Walker graduated from Glendale College with an AA in Aerospace Technology. He has attended numerous seminars in aviation operations and safety conducted by Flight Safety International and the University of Southern California, as well as serving on Dassault Aviation and Garrett Aviation Operator’s Advisory Boards from 1990 – 2000.

 

Steven C. Friedmann, Vice President, Development

As Vice President of Development for Castle & Cooke Aviation, Mr. Friedmann is responsible for the growth of Castle & Cooke’s aviation division. His responsibilities include the leasing of all hangar and office space, future development and acquisitions of FBOs. Since joining Castle & Cooke Aviation in 2001, he has expanded the VNY facilities, increased profitability and established new opportunities for aviation generally.

Prior to joining Castle & Cooke Aviation, Mr. Friedmann was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Air Group, Inc., a large aircraft management and charter company based at VNY.  He has extensive knowledge of general aviation operations and FBO development.  He assists in aircraft acquisition and disposition, legal matters concerning the operation of the aviation division and is responsible for bottom line growth.  Mr. Friedmann is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Southwestern University, School of Law.  He is an active member of the State Bar of California and a licensed real estate broker.
